0

Some metro stations become important because they stand near a market or an office zone. Howrah Metro Station is different. It sits beneath one of India’s busiest railway gateways, carrying passengers from long-distance trains, suburban platforms, buses, ferries and local roads into Kolkata’s modern underground metro network.

For years, crossing from Howrah to central Kolkata meant depending on road traffic over the Hooghly. Now, the Green Line gives passengers a faster link through the under-river metro tunnel. Howrah Metro Station is built below the Howrah railway station complex and connects towards Howrah Maidan on one side and Mahakaran, Esplanade, Sealdah and Salt Lake Sector V on the other. It is also widely noted as India’s deepest metro station, with a depth of around 34 metres.
